Home Game Yum! (I mean Fun)

Last night was our home Game. Our usually lineup is $50 freezout with T3700 and 20 min blinds that start at 25/50. We ususually will have a min 20 plus runners and they bust we start up 1/2 NL game with a max 10 people. Once in a while we will do a$100 freeze and last night was just such occassion. We had a total 17 runners (not uncommon with the higher buyin) and low and behold I won.
Pretty ABC poker except the following suckout hand that propel me into the chip lead for good. With blinds 200/400, the UTG pushes all in for $3900 (now he could have a vairety of hands but I put him on pp because of the nature of his push, also he is much more likely to limp with a monster) folded to button who calls all in for about $1900. I am in the BB with KJo and I tank. I know I am behind but feel that I getting close to 2:1 odds with a chance to knock out 2 of the 7 remaining. I also will still have about $4k left. I call, UTG tables AK (doh misread) Button tables A10 (correct read). So I drawing to J and low behold Js on the Flop and the K on the river and bingo I am dominant chip stack with 5 left. From there I abused the table with one to go until the bubble. It took about an hour to pop the bubble and then only about 20 minuntes to end the whole thing. All in all, ended up netting $800 for the night.

So does this Make me a Pro

Got bored so I thought I would play a $330 Sng. Way above my online roll but I figured it was worth a shot. Extremely tight play, so I was able to steal with ease. I guess nordberg put me on a steal and didnt give much credit. All the chips went in on the flop and this pushed me into the chip lead. I eventually placed 2nd after a push fest heads up that last about 15 mins.

Lesson #517 - how to play top set vs 2nd set

Gotta love it when you get it all in on the flop and realize your opponent has one out. Note to self rather be lucky than good any day.
Have a good weekend.

Close But No Cigar

2 quick updates:

WSOP 1K ME Qualifier - 31/90 - never got anything going. Went out when in the 3 rd hour when cutoff pushed allin (3K), I called with A10 (I had 5.5K) because I read him desparate but the BB pushed and had me covered. I called my 2.5k getting 6 to 1 but knowing I was toast. Sure enough the cutoff had 10-4 and the BB had AQ.

Riverchasers - I sucked out huge against AA and then went on to amass a huge stack (23K) until $mokee showed up at my table. I then proceed to double him up and then double up 4 consective people, each time I got my chips in as dominant favorite and each time nadda. I once again hit a string of cards back to 21K, then back to 15K, then back 21K then back to 15k. On the hand after I busted out of the $1K, I woke up on the Button with KsQs, I popped it $moke min reraised and I called. Flop gave me 2spades and gutshot, I pushed with 12 outs twice (Flush and Gutshot), $moke called with AAs, Q on the turn gave me 2 outs but nada on the river and boom I am done.

I then procede to my local home game and took out my anger on them.

Have a great weekend.

1 in 12 shot, I like my odds!

Well I qualified for the $1K WSOP ME satellite on my first try. Here are a few random pics, with just some random comments

During the first few hours it was pretty much raise or fold for me. I busted the last 2 people before the final table so as you can see I had a comfortable 2nd place in chips.

The chip leader had been uber aggressive post flop. On this hand he smooth called my raise in the cutoff and then lead out on the flop. I think I actually may have been ahead but I chose to wait for a better spot.

The hand below the button raised and I put them on a steal, so I re-raised and he called. The call screamed weakness to me, so I assumed my top pair on the flop was good. I bet enough to commit him and as you can see I was basically drawing dead on the flop. Bad read by me but I still had 20x the blinds.

Here was the hand I decided to go with. Given the uber aggressiveness of the small blind I didn't think twice about getting it all in preflop. He did have a better hand than I gave him credit for but fortunately the Queens held.

The hand below I think I might have played different but my thoughts at the time were this. I have a chance to take someone out for only about 20% of my stack. The guy had just lost the majority of his stack a few hands earlier and could be pushing with complete air, in which the majority of the time I am a 60/40 or even a 80% against a lower pair. As you can see I had to suck out and we were on the bubble.

This was the final hand, I raised and he pushed preflop. I was willing to gamble since I had really big stack. I figured I was racing and with a 40X the blinds even after the call I was willing to take my chances.

Hopefully I can seal the deal tonight and head back to the big show

Back to the Future

Ok I am now Back to The Future. I don't know if anyone still checks here or not, but that doesn't matter. The reason I started this blog was for self growth. Growth in poker, job, ect.. While I definitely grew, I regressed even further. Especially in poker. (We can get in the non poker growth/regressions later)

I achieved goals that I never thought I would, I also made the most basic mistakes that signified how little I had learned.
For me poker is a DEMON,

I feel like I can control it and even master it but it pushes me to brink of obsession.

So I start over again and go back to the future. I have set a goal to go back to Vegas for the big one. I want to play like I was playing when I won (at least play online that way) my seat.

I have already registered for several of the Thursday $1K WSOP satellites, and I plan on playing in some the BBT3 events starting tonight with M00KIE.
